مہر سامی ایک نیک، سادہ اور مذہبی لڑکی ہے۔ وہ پانچ وقت نماز پڑھتی ہے، روزے رکھتی ہے اور اسے پختہ یقین ہے کہ اللہ اس کی ہر دعا قبول کرتا ہے۔ محبت کو وہ بالکل فضول چیز سمجھتی ہے اور اپنی سہیلیوں سے اس موضوع پر اکثر بحث کرتی رہتی ہے۔ اس کی سہیلیاں اس کی اس خوبی سے جلتی بھی ہیں کہ وہ دنیا کی پرواہ کیے بغیر اللہ سے اتنی گہری وابستگی رکھتی ہے۔ 

ایک دن غلطی سے telephone lines cross ہو جاتی ہیں اور مراد — جو ایک امیر، لبرل اور اعلیٰ طبقے کا نوجوان ہے  اتفاقاً مہر اور اس کی سہیلی کی گفتگو سن لیتا ہے۔ مہر کی محبت مخالف باتیں اسے اپنی طرف کھینچتی ہیں اور وہ اپنے دوست سے شرط لگاتا ہے کہ وہ اس لڑکی کو اپنی محبت میں گرفتار کر کے دکھائے گا۔ 

مراد اپنا منصوبہ شروع کر دیتا ہے اور آہستہ آہستہ مہر کی زندگی میں داخل ہو جاتا ہے۔ مہر جو کبھی سادگی اور ایمان کی زندگی گزارتی تھی، ایک تبدیلی کے سفر پر نکل پڑتی ہے  لیکن یہ تبدیلی برائی سے اچھائی کی طرف نہیں بلکہ اچھائی سے برائی کی طرف ہے۔ 

اس سفر کے ذریعے ناول خود کو پہچاننے، توبہ کرنے اور سکون کی تلاش کے موضوعات کو بیان کرتا ہے۔ مہر کی کہانی یہ دکھاتی ہے کہ کس طرح ایک انسان غلط لوگوں اور غلط فیصلوں کے زیرِ اثر اپنے آپ کو کھو سکتا ہے۔

ناول کا اختتام اسے واقعی خاص بناتا ہے۔ یہ دعا اور صبر کا ایک گہرا پیغام دیتا ہے  کہ انسان چاہے کتنا بھی بھٹک جائے، اللہ ہمیشہ بہترین منصوبہ ساز ہے اور اس کی رحمت کبھی دور نہیں ہوتی۔

  ایک نیک لڑکی ایک چالاک نوجوان کے جال میں پھنس کر اپنا ایمان کھو دیتی ہے  لیکن واپس اللہ کی طرف لوٹنے کا سفر ہی اس ناول کی اصل روح ہے۔

Characters

Meher Sami
• Meher is a simple girl who prays five times a day, fasts in Ramadan, doesn't lie, and considers love "a waste of time." She is proud of the fact that her prayers are always listened upon by Allah, and pays no attention to what her friends say about love.
Murad
• Murad belongs to an upper-class family, is liberal in his thinking, and for him love is just a fun game. One day, due to a crossed telephone line, he unintentionally hears Meher's conversation with her friend. Her arguments against love attract him, and he bets his friend that he will trap Meher in his love.
